290 days to Christmas!
Monroe Weekly was a weekly news and commentary in the late nineties. It was run by Kent Magruder and featured opposing views on contemporary issues. If it were still in operation today, it would likely be in a blog format.
Fuiten Charges King 5 With Slanderous Yellow Journalism
[Ed. - The PI headline was "Anti-gay group draws protesters in Lynnwood" and the opinions expressed on their "Sound Off" was ten-to-one against the Christians. The media slanders Christians just to keep the cultural war going. Pastor Fuiten stands up to these media bigots and exposes their tactics without lowering to their level of bigotry and name-calling.]
Remarks of Dr. Joseph B. Fuiten: Transcript of speech to Watchman on the Walls
October 19, 2007
Lynnwood Convention Center
Fuiten charges King 5 and The Everett Herald with slanderous yellow journalism.
I want to express my appreciation for being invited. After all the negative reporting about you, I wanted to be able to come and see you for myself. You look normal to me.
I would also like to express my lack of appreciation for the mistreatment by the News media, most particularly, but not exclusively, the Everett Herald. As a life-long reader of at least one newspaper every day . . .
. . . their opening article was the second most outrageous article I have read in my entire life. It was slanderous yellow journalism . . .
. . . trying to link Watchman on the Walls with events that have nothing to do with them.
The combining of several unrelated topics creates a slur by association. What does this conference have to do with race and swastikas? The Herald used this conference to discuss racism, the Klan, and Aryan nations. Of course, then they drug out the mayor of Lynnwood and the Chairman of the Snohomish County Council to make completely uninformed and unrelated comments.
The article was shameful propaganda. I was going to speak on the topic of civic involvement and voter registration. However, once I saw the media lynching of your group I felt I needed to respond to that.
The City of Lynnwood was reported by Channel 5 tonight as not supporting your message. Your message that marriage is limited to one man and one woman is the law of the land upheld by the State Supreme Court. Does the Mayor of Lynnwood not support that law? Your message that normal relations between a man and a woman reflects the way we are created is apparently not supported by the Mayor.
The Stranger, Seattle's homosexual newspaper, quoted the Mayor of Lynnwood, Don Gough, as calling you Russian-American citizens "bad guys" and "fairly weird."
The Convention Center director, Eddie Tadlock was quoted by the Stranger as saying this isn't the first time there's been bad blood at the convention center. "We held a multicultural fair here last spring," he says. "We had... a neo-Nazi group... come and protest. We get it from both sides."
Are you all "bad blood?" Did the Stranger at least report it straight? If so, for the City of Lynnwood Mayor to use the language he did, and the Center director to compare Russian-Americans to a neo-Nazi group is blatantly racist. The City of Lynnwood should either repudiate the Stranger's reporting as untruthful, or apologize to the Russian-Americans for the racial slurs.
I was shocked to read the local Religious Equality group raising allegations of violence. Mind you, they had no evidence. They offered no proof. But when you have lazy reporters who don't care about the truth, why do you need evidence? The Southern Poverty Law Center was also concerned about violence here. If you are thinking about violence in the world today, why do they talk about religious groups like us?
I have had my life threatened more than once by homosexuals but they would never charge homosexuals with being violent. Have you ever threatened anyone's life? I haven't. I have received hundreds of genuinely hate-filled emails and phone calls at both my home and my office from homosexuals. But no reporter has ever mentioned that or accused them of being violent or hate-filled. Have you ever sent a derogatory email, made a phone call, or even called a homosexual a derogatory name?
The charge of hate and violence is a charge that homosexuals like to level against us. "Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America where we have separation of church and state," Rosie O'Donnell said recently.
When the Southern Poverty Law Center and homosexual groups accuse, and the Everett Herald amplifies the charge of Christians being violent, how come they never mention the homosexuals or the atheists?
When Channel 5 reported tonight that you have declared war on homosexuals they are inciting people to violence. Have you declared war? War is violent! Channel 5 accused you of being violent and many will believe their accusation.
How many Russians have been killed over the years by atheists? Stalin killed at least 20 million in the name of atheism but no one ever says that secular people are violent.
Hitler was a pagan, and apparently a lot more. He killed probably 8 million in his gas chambers and caused the deaths of millions more.
Do they ever object to pagans, occultists, and whatever else?
Mao killed at least 30 to 35 million in China as an atheist. The campaign of secularists in China continues against free speech. They don't even want our President to speak to the Dali Lama. I guess I missed the report of the Southern Poverty Law Center on that.
The Moslems have killed millions in the 20th century and show no signs of letting up. A local Muslim imam from Seattle, writing in the Seattle Times, recently blamed the Holocaust on Christians. He conveniently forgot that a number of the Muslim nations were aligned with the Nazi's. Did Equal Rights Washington object to that?
The L.A. Times wrote about Muslims in Indonesia forcing Christians of all denominations to convert to Islam or get their throats slit. Thousands upon thousands of Christians were first converted and, according to rigid Islamic religious dictate, forced to undergo sexual mutilation of their foreskin or clitoris (with kitchen knives and razor blades) to make them conform to Muslim standards. Then they were enslaved to their local Muslim chieftain.
Does the Southern Poverty Law Center have concern about that? They write with alarm about human feces being thrown at someone in Europe, something that has nothing to do with your group, but they don't object when people are treated like feces in Indonesia.
Let me ask a question of you reporters in the room who amplify the charge of Equal Rights Washington that this group is violent. Do you ever ask them if this is the greatest threat of violence in Washington State? You don't ask them that. You don't ask for evidence of violence. You don't ask for evidence of hate. You just amplify their absurd charges. Then when my life is threatened by the very people you incite with your reporting, you suddenly fall silent.
All my messages for the last 26 years are on tape. You have never heard me utter one word of hate, but you let the likes of Equal Rights Washington accuse me of that without asking for the evidence.
What am I guilty of? I oppose gay marriage. I oppose special rights for homosexuals beyond those enjoyed by all Americans. I support God's design for marriage. I am not speaking for Watchman on the Walls. I am their invited guest. They did not ask me to say anything nor did they review my comments in advance.
I am raising my voice in protest over the shameful way that this beautiful city has treated these citizens. The citizens of Puget Sound are generally a good and tolerant people. However, the media in this case has been an embarrassment to the region. They are treating you more like the KGB's propaganda machine than like citizens of our common nation.
